Battle of Hogwarts

Today is the fifth anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts. The battle that saw the defeat of the Lord Voldemort, who was better known as He Who Must Not Be Named, by Harry Potter.

"I know that you are preparing to fight. Your efforts are futile. You cannot fight me. I do not want to kill you. I have great respect for the teachers of Hogwarts. I do not want to spill magical blood. Give me Harry Potter, and none shall be harmed. Give me Harry Potter, and I shall leave the school untouched. Give me Harry Potter, and you will be rewarded. You have until midnight."--Lord Voldemort
This was the ultimatum that Lord Voldemort delivered before the battle commenced. Lord Voldemort ordered all of his followers, the Death Eaters, and all other creatures loyal to him to attack Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Members of Dumbledore's Army were able to communicate a need for reinforcements to stand against Lord Voldemort's deadly army; members of the Order of the Phoenix and other allies were eager to respond. This newly formed defense was lead by non other then Professor Minerva McGonagall and Kingsley Shaklebolt.

"The band was like a cannon blast, and the golden flames that erupted between them, at the dead center of the circle they had been treading, marked the point where the spells collided. Harry saw Voldemort's green get meet his own spell, saw the Elder Wand fly high, dark against the sunrise, spinning across the enchanted ceiling like the head of Nagini, spinning though the air toward the master it would not kill, who had come to take full possession of it at last. And Harry, with the unerring skill of the Seeker, caught the want in his free hand as Voldemort fell backward, arms splayed the slit pupils of the scarlet eyes rolling upward. Tom Riddle hit the floor with mundane finality, his body feeble and shrunken, the white hand's empty, the snakelike face vacant and unknowing. Voldemort was dead, killed by his own rebounding curse, and Harry stood with two wands in his hand, staring down at his enemy's shell."--J.K. Rowling
The Order and the D.A. defeated Lord Voldemort's forces, and the self-named Dark Lord himself was defeated and killed by 17 year-old Harry Potter. The Battle of Hogwarts was the bloodiest battle in the Second Wizarding War. Casualties include: Lord Voldemort (Tom Riddle), Bellatrix Lestrange, Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks Lupin, Severus Snape, Fred Weasley, Colin Creevey, Lavender Brown, Vincent Crabbe and others.

"We did it! We bashed them, wee Potter's the one! And Voldy's gone moldy, so now let's have fun!"-Peevs the Poltergeist
